PRE-ELECTROLYSIS CARE INSTRUCTIONS

Allow your hair to grow approximately to 1/8’ or 2-3mm. I need enough length to be able to grab the hair with tweezers. If the hair gets too long in between treatments, you can trim or shave. If you decide to shave the area, do so a few days prior to your appointment.

Do not wax, tweeze, thread, or pluck hairs between treatments.

Daily moisturizing is especially important. Well-hydrated skin helps the probe enter the follicle more smoothly and make treatment more comfortable.

Drink plenty of water 24-48 h before your appointment. Well-hydrated skin and tissue conduct electrical current better than dry/dehydrated tissue, which can help make electrolysis treatment more efficient and comfortable. Dehydrated follicles are much more difficult to treat.

Gently exfoliate before treatment to remove dead skin and debris from the follicle openings, allowing smoother probe insertion. Avoid aggressive exfoliation, and if your skin is sensitive, do not exfoliate immediately before your appointment.

Avoid sun exposure for 24 hours prior to your treatment.

Avoid retinol, glycolic acid, and other irritating products for several days before treatment. I recommend stopping topical retinoids , such as tretinoin (Retin-A) at least one week before electrolysis. If you are taking or have recently taken isotretinoin (Accutane), please inform me and consult your prescribing healthcare provider before electrolysis. Having electrolysis services done while on retinoids could result in permanent pigment changes and scarring. Do not discontinue any prescription medication without consulting your healthcare provider.

Avoid or limit stimulants such as coffee, energy drinks and other sources of caffeine on the day of treatment, as they may increase sensitivity. Some clients notice increased skin or pain sensitivity at certain times during their menstrual cycle. If this applies to you, you may prefer to schedule your appointment when you are less sensitive.

Pain relief & numbing cream If desired, you may take an over-the-counter pain reliever approximately 30 minutes before your appointment, provided it is safe and appropriate for you. A topical anesthetic cream, such as 4% lidocaine, may also be applied before treatment. Apply only to clean, intact skin and follow the product label or your healthcare provider’s instructions regarding the amount and application time. An occlusive covering topical anesthetic can significantly increase absorption. Always consult your healthcare provider if you are unsure whether a pain reliever or topical anesthetic is safe for you.

Please arrive with the treatment area clean and free of makeup, lotions, oils, deodorant, and other products, unless otherwise instructed.

Electrolysis creates tiny openings in the skin and temporarily disrupts the skin barrier, increasing the risk of infection, irritation, and other complications.

Carefully following these post-treatment instructions is essential for proper healing and minimizing the risk of scarring, hyperpigmentation and other complications.
